A Quality divulgation

The Quality and Project Management OpenLab project (qPMO) has participated at the 3th edition of the European Biotech Week, an event for the dissemination of the biotechnological culture. Different Italian and European cities were involved in this event on 12-18 October 2015.  Assobiotec and Biomedical Science Department of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) sponsored the Italian meeting. The first European Biotech Week that took place in 2013 celebrating the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the DNA molecule (1953). The knowledge in this sector has allowed the development of Biotech entrepreneurs in healthcare, agriculture, food, energy and biochemical processing fields. A “biotechnology dissemination day” has been organized on 14 October in Palermo at IBIM-CNR.  The meeting has comprised the conference entitled “Zebrafish a model system for animal experimentation” by prof. Vincenzo Cavalieri, followed by different open Labs in which high school students have had the occasion to experiment biotech techniques utilized in research and diagnosis. In this context MarLab, a laboratory granted with Quality Certification ISO 9001-2008, has opened its door showing to participants how to extract DNA from sea urchin gonads using a protocol in “Quality”. The EBW event has been awarded with the Gold Medal of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
