Design of Transfections (DoT): at the intersection between Statistics and Biology

Just featured at the Workshop Bringing Maths to Life (Naples 19-21 October 2015)

One of the four main activities of Quality and Project Management OpenLab (qPMO) is focused on the identification of methodologies that lead to an efficient management of experiments with multiple variables. In particular, the work was based on applying the statistical methodology of Design of Experiments (DoE) that allow the variation of more factors simultaneously, to study their interaction and generate useful models for the optimization, the description and the results experiments prediction.

The group of Dr. Giovanna Liguori  (IGB, Napoli) has applied this methodology in cellular biology field, in both toxicity assay and transfection experiments, that is introduction of exogenous DNA inside neural cell cultures. The results of this work have been presented in both editions of the Workshop "Bringing Math to life". During the last edition, just ended, Dr. Sara Mancinelli, PhD student of Biomolecular Science in Liguori’s group, presented the work "Design of Experiments implementation in a transfection protocol fine-tuning: Design of Transfections (DoT)", showing the steps to optimize transfection experiments on different cellular lines.
